Core Values
Access. Communication. Language.
These are my core values.
Access
As part of the human experience, our senses allow us to access information and navigate the world we live in. They are the building blocks of experience. The human capacity to experience the world in infinitely diverse ways is astounding.
When one is born with given senses, one must learn how to
navigate the world. When senses are absent, how does one
navigate and reorient?
The brain adapts by giving itself a makeover. The areas of the
brain normally devoted to handling that sensory information does
not go unused — they get rewired and put to work processing
other senses.
Why is access important? Since each and every one of us navigate our world differently, access is important. Without accessibility, people face barriers to obtaining information. With accessible designs, people have access to information. Everyone benefits from accessibility.
Communication
As human beings, communication is at the heart of who we are. We connect and interact, exchange information and ideas, all of which is made possible through communication. Communication is intrinsic to our humanity as social beings—our relationships are built and maintained through communication, our education and work depend on communication, and our participation in justice systems, political, and civic life are all negotiated through communication.
