Director of ASL

What is the Director of ASL?

The Director of ASL (DASL) oversees the accuracy and coherency of sign language in a theatrical production on stage or film. The Director is also responsible for the delivery and presenting a visual eye to any possible impediments to the delivery and usage of sign language. For example, signers clearly need to face the audience. There should not be any "visual noise" that distracts from the signing.

As the Director of ASL, I have worked and collaborated with producers, director, actors, stage managers, and designers. I had the fortunate opportunity to work for Deaf West Theater on two productions: Medusa: The Musical Lab at the Getty Villa (November 2019) and Jean Cocteau's Orphée at the Odyssey Theater (March 2020).
